Blog 27: Sel Reflection

Title: Senior Project Reflection
Label: Presentation
Directions: Please answer the following questions and turn it in to the blog.
Due Date: The day after your two-hour presentation by 8:00 A.M.

(1) Positive Statement

I'm most proud of all the knowledge I have gained through my independent components and regular research. I literally worked from the ground zero up. I know so much about my topic and have a deep understanding of what it takes to be a makeup artist.

(2) Questions to Consider

For my 2hr presentation I would give my self an AE. I deserve an AE because I engaged my audince and really showed how much knowledge I had. Plus it wasn't your typical presentation on makeup. I went thoroughly through all my information and really tried to educate the students in my presentation class. Through my activities it served as evidence that they were listening and understanding on what I had to say. I also sounded confident throughout my talking time. Plus it felt great to hear Mrs. Edwards gushing to me how much she loved my presentation. I was also able to catch Mr. Frakes attention who said he wasn't interested in makeup but who learned a lot through my presentation.
AE

b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)? Why?
I would give myself a P/P+ because I worked really hard on getting solid research. It showed during my Exit Interview and 2hr Presentation. I was also able to make this a meaningful project instead of just a grade.

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
I was able to get a lot of feed back from other people on what I should do for my project. I found great research and I'm now certified.

(4) What didn’t work for you in your senior project?
Trying to figure out which part of makeup I was going to focus on. Also there was always something due so there was a lot on my plate which made me very stressed. The hardest part of my senior project was completing my independent components.

(5) Finding Value
I know how to make connections with people, have solid research and being certified, which always me to create my own business.

Service Learning

Content:

(1) LIA Response to blog:

    Literal
Duties - In the first half of my hours Alicia taught me a lot of things, like certain makeup looks, how fashion is apart of makeup, trends, and hair styling. I my self was able to clean brushes, set up, prep the faces, interact with clients, create makeup looks and miscellaneous things.

    Interpretive
I most benefitted from service learning by interacting with clients. I listened to what they wanted and saw my mentor Alicia respond to them. Soon I was able to start making a plan for clients and what they wanted to look like and presented it to them. Seeing their reactions when the look was finished was priceless. If they didn't like the look we would sit down with her and think of ways to correct it. They were always our number one concern.

   Applied
This helped greatly towards my EQ. I was able to see what client's first impression was on the makeup artist and how they react to us. I saw how all three of my answers were put in use and every makeup application was a success.

Helping 2013

Emani Lloyd
  • For her Senior project, she was thinking about doing it on Alcoholism. She chose to do it on alcoholism because her father is a recovering alcoholic for 21 years. She also wanted to learn and educated others on the harm drinking while pregnant can have on the unborn child , and if the child makes it full term the affects it can have on the child's learning capability.
  • I thought it was a good idea. I think she should choose between general alcoholism and the effects of it on unborn children.
  • She is planing to visit and volunteer at facilities with children who were affect by their parents alcoholism. Attend AA meetings and interview recovering alcoholics that are available. Also families that were affected by drunk drivers.
  • She should look up other organizations, because I don't know any places that will accept high schoolers to be involved with sorts of cases.
  • She hopes to see a variety of different projects, and there will be some on nursing since she is thinking about doing that in future. She also expects that the projects will be entertaining and educational.
  • To be respectful to the presenter since most of us will be nervous. Also if they are bored to at least pretend to be interested.
  • She was wondering if she got a speaker to come and speak could that count as her activity? She also wanted to know was if we had to talk the whole two hours.
  • I said that her activity has to do with one of her answers. I also explained all the talking requirements.

Independent Component 2

Literal
(a) Statement saying: “I, Jessica Castro, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”
(b) For the last 30 hours of my independent component everything I learned from the first component was put to the test. I never put makeup on someone so this was very challenging. I had to search for models and create makeup looks.
Interpretive
This was extremely important because I had to go through every step that a makeup artist does. I had to set up my makeup kit, keep an eye on time, and proficiently apply makeup.
Applied
It helped my EQ because I was experiencing every aspect of a makeup artist. I went through my final photoshoot and am now a certified makeup artist.
